The only way to get human donor milk from Southwest Washington was until recently to travel to Tigard, or Portland. Now, residents can drive to their nearest Legacy Salmon Creek Apothecary for a liter or more of donor milk. This can save you money, which is a great benefit for people with tight budgets.

The newcomer also partnered with the Northwest Mothers Milk Bank, a nonprofit breast milk collection and distribution organization. They have a large donor database with over 200 people and are always seeking new donors. They make it possible for donors to receive donor milk in much the same way they do regular prescriptions. Legacy Salmon Creek hospital is the only Baby Friendly Certified Hospital in southwest Washington. It will soon join Mount Hood Medical Center, already Baby-Friendly certified. The hospital's Baby-Friendly Ward is expected to be certified by the fall. The hospital also boasts one of the most impressive lactation departments in the state. Three lactation nurses are on hand and one consultant is available to provide more direct care. It is also home one of most active lactation groups in the region.

The ward also boasts a lactation center of excellence, a state of the art breastfeeding clinic, and an impressive array of lactation support groups, including one for women of color. It is no surprise that Clark County has made the ward a top destination for new parents.
